Description
Great Smoky Mountains National Park is home to millions of trees but few are as well admired or photographed as this mighty Bur Oak in Cades Cove. Known as simply as, “The Tree” or “The Hyatt Oak”
The oak stands alone in the field adjacent to Dan Lawson Place at the end of Hyatt Lane.
Lawson’s original log cabin was built in 1856. It’s entirely possible that this tree was planted by him or left in place when the field was cleared.
I enjoy making many trips into Cades Cove each year and always enjoy this magnificent oak.
