Description
While thru hiking the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine I had the unique opportunity to get up close and personal with nature. Over six months of hiking up and down mountains, living in the woods and slowing life down to a walking pace.
I got really tuned in to the natural world around me, the forests and all that call them home. It’s an amazing experience. I was blessed to have so many encounters with wildlife. Plenty of bears, deer and of course snakes. This rattlesnake encounter was incredible. The snake was just off the trail and was just about to begin eating the squirrel. I was able to watch, from a safe distance the entire process start to finish.

Thank You Greeshma and Congratulations to you as well! It is ironic! I enter many contests on FAA and it is interesting that in some contests an image will have no votes and in another, the same image will have several.

Interesting capture,i also uploaded something on the same lines on the 'Alien reptiles' contest, but my predator was a monocellate cobra and the prey a toad.Congratulations on your first place win in the 'bug' contest, you tied with me!!strangely enough in that as well our images were similar!!

I kinda feel for the squirrel, but rattlesnakes need to eat too. Such is the cycle of life. I like this!

The great cycle of life. I spent over an hour watching this unfold. The snake had it's work cut out for it!
